Silent Sky

by Lauren Gunderson

February 18 - March 7, 2027

Silent Sky tells the true, inspiring story of Henrietta Leavitt, a pioneering early-20th-century astronomer whose quiet discoveries changed our understanding of the universe. Working as a “human computer” at the Harvard Observatory—logging data without recognition in a male-dominated field—Henrietta defies restrictive expectations and pursues her own research on Cepheid stars. Her findings become a groundbreaking key to measuring cosmic distance. The play explores ambition, resilience, and the personal cost of scientific devotion. Lyrical and thoughtful, Silent Sky celebrates the pursuit of knowledge and the profound, often overlooked impact of one woman who reached for meaning among the stars.

Shirley’s life has stalled. Her youth is gone, her days are repetitive, and at home she’s treated more like household staff than family. When her best friend buys her a two-week trip to Greece, Shirley packs a bag, leaves a note in the kitchen cupboard, and walks out. In Greece she discovers sun, sea, freedom—and the woman she thought she’d lost forever.
