Please join us for the 8th Annual Washington County Read and reception –
free and open to the public.
Join us and meet Tom Piazza, author of City of Refuge,
Learning's selection for the 2016 Washington County READ,
and hear a dramatic reading from from his book along with personal
Katrina stories from local residents.
"In the heat of the summer, two New Orleans families - one black and one
white - confront a storm that will change the course of their lives.
When news of the gathering hurricane spreads - and when the levees give
way and the floodwaters come - the fate of each family changes forever."
City of Refuge follows the gut-wrenching and heartbreaking journey of
Mr. Piazza, a New Orleans resident, is the award-winning author of ten
books. His diverse talents include writing for the HBO drama series
Treme and winning a Grammy for his writing on American music.
